Review
In JTBC's drama A Virtuous Business, Seo Young-bok (Kim Sun-young) has now become the most pitiful sister in the small screen. Her affectionate look at her children, heartbreaking feeling to protect her husband, and feeling sorry for her friend make viewers feel heartbroken. The moment we look at Young-bok, we feel her pain and love together.
Young-bok is a person who experiences the truth of life, "If you put it on top and give birth, you will not be able to escape the beggar-like shape." Although she had four children, her husband Jong-sun (Im Cheol-soo) is still good, but there are many unresolved problems behind it. She is a beloved wife, but the love left the burden of poverty, and the reality that she cannot provide a decent desk for her first daughter, who is a middle school student, breaks her heart.
Especially in the 9th and 10th episodes, Youngbok's sadness reaches its peak. As her husband fails to get a job and re-enters the path of crime, Youngbok experiences a shocking incident of hitting the husband of her sister Oh Geum-hee (Kim Sung-ryeong). When Youngbok learns of this fact, he screams and tells her husband, "From now on, the best thing you can do is not to be caught until the end." In this scene, her expression is a mixture of sadness, anger, guilt, and motherhood, conveying strong emotions to the viewers.
Moreover, the scene where Youngbok asks Geum-hee for forgiveness is more sad than any other scene. Even if Geum-hee is cold-hearted, Youngbok visits again and apologizes, which evokes deep sorrow. Her words, "I thought if my mother has a corner to understand me, I would be less upset if I could make any difference," contain a mournful feeling that anyone can't help but feel.
Kim's performance perfectly expresses all these emotions and allows viewers to immerse themselves in the pain of Youngbok. As she said she had no satisfaction with her acting, she brilliantly reveals her deficiencies and breathes life into her characters. The compassionate characters she plays always leave a deep impression, such as Sun-young, a widow in Reply 1988, and Hee-sook, in Three Sisters.
